Atlases 03:37
ATLASES All these atlases will gasp under flashing lights and smoke and fireworks. cause if all we have are lightning hands, you'll have to hold my place and uniform for me. cause if this party's ending i don't wanna leave. This pavements cold, this night has frozen over, this coat is my shield and i am safe inside of here forever, until.. these headlight eyes will bend and break behind the sirens as advertising for the last recruits distorts this silence. This city's old, a carbon copied island of office blocks, shops and criminals in suits that fight like lions, and now the sky explodes in technicolour shards of fire, and here i lie the hunted with my shield, i'm poised for violence. cause if all we have are lightning hands, idle minds and misled plans, with currencies that burn our hands, and power fights to conquer lands, then we're alone our redrawn maps, are atlases that just collapse.
2.
ARAGON PT II. There's animations on ceilings, we'll spider crawl up the walls, you can sit here for hours, yeah you can talk and trip balls. But why can't this be home. I guess that i'm leaving but i don't know when, but i'll leave this safe little stories pretense, that i will return here once in a while, with arms full of gold and the largest of smiles. Cause i can save myself from anyone but you.
3.
MOTHERS & FATHERS so, it's so quiet in here, old faces have told stories to newly-deaf ears so i make my excuses and go home, through the bustling streets of the golden townsmen, with the notion of what's made me the man i've become. We fought as brothers like cowboys with guns, now we're all equal and proud citizens. we'll hold our mother close to our hearts, our fathers a soldier or king in our eyes. we don't have religion my families my god, we'll find faith in stories of how we've grown old. I remember days when Joe would say, that he'd teach me to swim today, but he was already too far away to ever catch him up. and off he'd go down sunlit dunes and skip in deep into seas of blue, we wouldn't see him til night is due, his heart stays with the waves. So, we've been quiet this year,I guess our paper cups had their strings cut somewhere, if all we can hold, is on to our fathers hands, the law of our land, this old beaten heart sleeps so quiet.
4.
MORNING WAKE UP. I'll follow your fable for thousands of lands, whilst i wait for this evening to finally remand me in dreams of the comfort of your face in my hands, cause i love you. So here we are in this same old town, but it can only hold us for now, i hear the bigger cities shout. This ain't a science, but i'll be your cure, its all decided that i'll be your morning wake up when... cause love isn't something i'd pretend Like a marching band drummer with a wild rationale, a tin can toy snare drum and the stories to tell, and if i ever make it out alive from this hell, then i'll take you.

Waitress 04:28
WAITRESS The waitress has a look upon her face that says she's torn, she smokes cheap menthol cigarettes, wears scars of foregone wars, i wait, across the enemy lines, in this passenger seat. She holds the steering wheel and drives us from this place, i know that she's not saying much but silence makes us brave, as we listen to radio news about how England's lost it's faith. She spends her days avoiding preachers on the street, she's an unholy radical, a nameless body breached, in this unfriendly action of avoiding things that she don't wanna know. She'll make it home in time to see you rise, and she will just selfishly sit there and wait for you to save her life. and your eyes are dead and your body just divides, home's so cold, but you'll wait... so much colder. this is the evening we've spent, i'll never know what she meant, about bodies of water and old cold beds, this is the evening.....
6.
Battles 01:50
BATTLES They dream of glories of gold, i'll bore them with stories of ghosts, yeah, when i set fire to my last bridge back home. what is this world that we save, we're left to paint here alone in our caves as the least among us chase fortunes and fame. We'll set these cities and rules to rights, and we'll be the engine that fuels the fight, lets hope your history books understand why... see darling, this house ain't a home, its heart beats but it's never whole, we're in a fragile fortune tellers crystal ball, our faithful save face in the sky, we'll all join this battles disguise of a loyal army's voice, anaesthetised
7.
Machines 05:10
MACHINES This heart is my only weapon, this voice is all the ammunition i need, this body all encompassing in a tank like position, but my words won't turn a profit, so ignored i'll just watch you win. I don't believe in you, you're not selling me, on anything you say. You'll watch as this city shivers, the brave eyes, the streets that mourn and creep, you gods with all your ambitions, you won't save us you'll just make us weak, so go save yourselves from your devils, there's no way your money'll save you now. How powerless are you to protect us, when it's all you're paid to do. I'm not a machine, i'm not falling into line, you're not controlling me. you'll make young hearts bleed, selling your devices or tearing at the seams
8.
CASKETS & BIBLES Throw me in this casket, throw your bible in as well, if i can't live the way i want i might as well die in my hell, if i could share the secrets of this world caught in my eyes, i wouldn't charge you for the privilege or convince you that i'm right. and when we're sleeping, if i can't save you no one will, we're all just pawns in this shit. This body is cold, lets wait for the answers to show, everything we want to know, about questions the masters bestow, or live like the answers we are, reject all these questions we've asked, and live how these people believe, cause i'm happy living this dream. you know i'd like to save you all.

Boat Song 03:00
BOAT SONG. I'll start my life out on the seas, away from waving families (found washed up) walking on the beach of a fishing town in june. i'll have all my words for company, a few shards of new currencies, a lamp to show the evening in and wake me when it leaves. but here i am... still on these sands.. If these tall building part for me then i'll row myself to sovereignty, no people creeping/marching streets will keep me from my seas, if all my things are packed in neat, a quick stiff drink to help me sleep, then i'll wade out 'til it's too deep, and row myself away, but here i am.. still on these sands..with you Here's to your pier city, as i save this monologue. It seems weeks since you have talked me whilst i've built my new economy, of practicing excuses of why it is i had to leave, i said "if these tall buildings part for me..." but i guess that only works for me, in working out why these streets have never been my home, yes i know...that i will row...alone.

Vessels 09:50
VESSELS the songs from the lower deck, the dissent of men they set the story of all flags aligned, the old proletariat's voice, the only one, resigns. they'll share seven stories of hell in their lives. the captain is calling them out in the night. The ghost of the gamblers out on the deck, they'll take their craps dice and cards back to bed, cause they know these waters of white don't mean friendly rest. Screams from the captain, of " all men on deck... .. bravest of men who'll go down with the wreck.. ..we hand you our lives, get us out of this mess.. ..and then..." This white waters cold with the depth of a lonely soul, on coral reef beds lie the treasures of captains... spent, the white waters hold all the debts of the sailors gold. but this tryst is all we know. Bodies of Water and fire on the deck, watch as these vessels go down in distress, the captain and crewmen in their state, arresting love. send out the vutlures, all lenses of eyes, to watch as the periled, denounced now resigned, are captives, and all that the captain intended to die, You're God is lonely, go to him, and sink into green seas that stain your skin. and hide out in beds made of coral reef, as your captain is calling you all to sleep.

about

Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun Cheltenham, UK

Turn the clock back 7 years and JL&TSS are one of the hardest working bands in the UK.

After signing with Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Against Me!) the band filled 2013 with a 30 date UK tour, a US run supporting Dropkick Murphy’s plus UK and EU festivals and a welcome return to SXSW.

After a stint under the shortened 'Solemn Sun', the band are back to pick up where they left off.
